Pete was always going to be a racing driver, His father Bill was a British Leyland works driver racing Minis. Pete started driving at the age of 4, and then racing from the age of 6 in a Barnard Formula 6 racecar in the Midland Junior racing drivers club. Pete then progressed to the ¼ litre class and then to the prototype class. At the age of 12 Pete started to race in Junior Britton in Karts, traveling all over the UK with his father who looked after his karts and equally as important was his mentor. Winning over 200 races and 4 British championships beating Johnny Herbert in the process. He was offered a free Scholarship with Jim Russell Racing School. At the age of 15, Pete stopped racing karts & started to race motorcycles. Starting in the junior class and finally in the 750 Expert class winning many races. At the age of 17 Pete was back racing cars, where he started Racing in a Mini 1380 steel bodied car, then a space framed car winning many races and his first Welsh Championship. Next for Pete was rear wheel drive; a Ford Escort V8 special saloon again winning many races, a class British champion, 2 Welsh championships & the champion of champion’s title. This was to confirm Pete was not only a front wheel drive expert but also rear wheel drive. Next in Pete’s history came Single seaters in the Shape of F3 a Ralt RT30. Pete had a new sponsor for his new adventure, as he was to compete in F3 class “B” and British Open Single Seaters (BOSS). All was going to plan until a mechanical steering failure almost cost Pete his life, seriously injuring his back after crashing heavily.

After a while recovering Pete lost his sponsor but returned to the track in a Group c2 Le-Man’s type car with a Cosworth 3 ½ litre engine and a Skoda Silhouette lift off fiberglass body. Pete won a substantial number of races and yet again class British Championships. Pete’s Father Bill wanted to build the fastest Mini in the world and Pete was to drive and assist with the development of the project. This was achieved and Pete won the world title 4 times along with numerous race wins. Pete then returned to Racing a customer’s Thunder saloon MK2 Escort BDG, winning the Thunder saloon / Special saloon Revival meeting, lapping up to 2nd place and he had more successful outings in the car with many more wins. More recently, another of Pete’s customers asked him to race their car, again with Pete winning in it. Pete is now about to compete in another one of his friends & customer’s ex Production Touring car Astra VXR and a Porsche Carrera cup car racing throughout the UK and into Europe. Pete is also an “S” grade (super grade) ARDS Instructor and on the board of Directors of ARDS. He has given tuition to everyone from a novice starting out in track days, novice-racing drivers, and experienced Racing drivers to professional drivers competing in world championships. He is also The Motorsports School Chief instructor with nearly 30 years instructing experience, knowing how to get the best out of his clients by keeping them calm yet focused at all times.

2001 Season - Full season racing in the Mighty-Minis Championship. The rebuild of the mini enabled me to be more competitive and improve my race ability. Competition in the championship was fierce, as there were forty cars, all of equal power. The similarity therefore, led to close, exciting racing.

July 2001 - Upgraded National B to a National A Race Licence to enable me to train for and attain my ARDS Instructor qualification.

2001 - Entered the chance to win a season's racing including car and mechanics.

Achieved a place in the semi-finals (from six rounds) of the Tim Sugden, Renault Clio Scholarship, from 600 people. Although not winning the season's drive, I did achieve what I set out to do. I picked up lots of valuable information, including how to balance the car, and the importance of the correct racing line. It also gave me a different view on how to control the racing car in different situations and conditions.

2000 Season - Due to unforeseen problems with the car, the year was spent rebuilding, tuning and testing the mini to enable a better performance for the following season. Although this meant a year out of racing, the extensive testing helped to maintain a high level of both driving skill and motivation.

1999 Season - Full season racing in the Mighty Mini Championship, resulting in a midfield final-position. Owing to the fact that the car is shared, this gave me an enormous boost. Visiting most circuits in the UK enabled me to gain a good understanding of the varying skills needed in different environments.

March 1999 - Started racing in the BRSCC Mighty Mini Championship.

RAY INGMAN INSTRUCTOR ("A" Grade)

Many years ago, I qualified as a Mechanical Engineer (HND) at Middlesex University (it was a Polytechnic back then). After dabbling in pure engineering for some years, I turned my hobby into a business, then from 1991 – 2013, I owned and ran a specialist Jaguar parts supply, restoration and race preparation company. (Classic Spares Ltd.).

Since 2010, I have acted as Technical Editor, Track Tester and Journalist contributor for ‘Jaguar World Magazine’. I have also contributed features to many other magazines.‘4 x 4 Magazine’; ‘Retro Car’; ‘Classic Car Monthly’ and ‘Jaguar Enthusiast’. The most expensive car I have track tested was a £4m Jaguar C-type at the Goodwood circuit – I was very careful!

I commenced race instruction in 1998, actually taking my ARDS test at Mallory Park. I subsequently progressed to a Grade A licence – complimenting my International C race licence.

I act as Chief Instructor for the Jaguar Enthusiasts Club and Club Lotus, plus Senior Instructor for the ‘Classic American Muscle’ experience company.

I have also been employed as an Instruction/Demo driver for various replica car manufacturing companies including Dax – I assisted with the development of their V12 engined Tojerio Cobra model.

Recently Since 2013 I have been engaged as a

‘Pro- Driver’ for Jaguar Cars –  working on all the major launches of road vehicles and dealer events including the 2013 F-TYPE and the 2015 XE Saloon at venues such as Estoril, Barcelona GP, Navarra and Motorland.global launch, Navarra, Spain; 2014 F-TYPE R Coupe: prototype launch, Barcelona GP circuit; Global launch, Motorland, Spain; ‘Prince Harry’ Charity corporate event, Goodwood. 2015 XE saloon prototype launch, Estoril, Portugal. For a little light entertainment, I have been a demo driver at Chris Evan’s 2013 CarFest South and 2014 North and South events. I commenced my racing ‘career’ in 1981, it has predominantly consisted of British ‘club’ racing events, mostly competing in Historic Jaguars, MGs and Lotus’ including ‘Birkett 6hr Relay’ on numerous occasions. Additionally, I have been lucky enough to enter many FIA international events including the LeMans Classic, Spa 6hr, Porto Revival, Zandvoort Historic Festival and Nurburgring Oldtimer meeting.

My one non-European foray was to the 2007 Daytona Historic Festival – In the good old U S of A. My successes have included Jaguar Enthusiasts Club 2002 sports car Outright Champion. I have been a member of the JEC Racing Competition Committee since 2000, having created the Jaguar XJS racing championship in 1997.
